Take the classic tale of Cinderella and flip it upside down. It's told from the viewpoint of Aralyn, older stepsister who has been as much a prisoner of her mother as was Cinderella, now married to the prince and known as Ellarose. Aralyn spent her life readying to be the princess, learning economics, government, history, etc. in preparation, only to be dropped from favor so her younger sister can take that spot.
When Ellarose seeks her out to help save the kingdom, it's tempting to hold to her Machiavellian mindset, but as she comes to understand the level of toxic corruption threatening the kingdom, she can't ignore it. Neither can she ignore the way her attraction to the prickly knight Vee, daughter of perhaps the most corrupt member of the king's council, keeps growing.
Add in three nearly impossible quests, a very unorthodox fairy godmother, plus lots of action and you have a compulsive page-turner. Great work, Jenny! ( )

An adventure for those who haven’t yet found their fairy-tale ending...The worldbuilding is so expanded that the story’s fairy-tale origins add little; still, this is an interesting journey of self-discovery with plenty of magic, action, an enemies-to-lovers romance, and a strongly developed theme of becoming your own person despite your origins. An entertaining jaunt.
