"We all go through awkward phases-even animals! Award-winning author and photographer April Pulley Sayre shines a light on nature's relatable in-between moments. No longer underwater but not ready to fly, no longer a tadpole but not yet leaping to land. Animals, just like people, can find themselves stuck in some awkward in-between stages. Picture book full of real life nature scenes. Birds, chipmunks, whales, and insects filled the pages. The were little words, so the pictures could take up the page. The words that were there were very lyrical and poetic. Sometimes the words would even move across the page in different ways making the language very fluid. This book has its strength in both illustrations and text!

There is great value to seeing real pictures in a book for children to learn about nature and animals. I would use this book for Kindergartners and first graders.

- Age: End of beginner to primary

- This book is about how animals are found in between different things. For example rock, trees, and even in between the "not yets" and still to come.

- It is perfect for a read aloud and I love the nature pictures. I would defintely have this in my classroom and would read it to my students.
