Durante la Seconda guerra mondiale i nazisti decidono di invadere la piccola isola di Keros (che non ha nessun valore strategico), come atto dimostrativo per convincere la Turchia ad entrare in guerra a fianco della Germania. Gli inglese per raggiungere e liberare i 2000 soldati che sono sull’isola inviano sei navi, ma è prima necessario neutralizzare i due enormi cannoni a lunga gittata posti sulla vicina isola di Navarone. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale, un commando alleato deve far saltare i cannoni di Navarone, isoletta greca che domina uno stretto. Con l'aiuto di un resistente greco e dopo aver ucciso una traditrice, il commando riesce nell'impresa. I famosi cannoni saltano in aria assieme ai tedeschi.
