Although the author has a couple of good points, overall his biases are pretty clear. They became clear in the introductory segment when he questions the sanity of some of his readers (maybe he needs to remember the First Amendment gives freedoms of expression and reading and that maybe the government should stay out of certain things). Overall, a lack of common sense. Pretty much another book about why libraries will not disappear. I have seen the arguments made better elsewhere. ( )
"The writer has undoubtedly trivialized a few Web advocates in the process and possibly made a few enemies, but no one (least of all, those of us who ply our librarian and information trades in the halls of academia) should ignore his arguments."
"This work skeptically explores the notion that the internet will soon obviate any need for traditional print-based libraries, and makes a case for the library's staying power in the face of technological advancements"--Provided by publisher. No library descriptions found. |
