The Seventh Gate is the thrilling conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Death Gate Cycle by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. In this tale of treachery, power, and heroism, Alfred, Haplo, and Marit embark on a journey of death and discovery as they seek to enter the dreaded Seventh Gate. Het laatste boek is ook uit. Jammer. ( )

I somewhat confusing, fast-paced, action-packed conclusion (with plot holes) to the adventures of Haplo, Alfred and Dog. The Seventh Gate is the final book in the series and won't make much sense unless you have read the previous 6 books.

The DeathGate Cycle has numerous issues with plot, continuity and erratic characterisation, but the world building is original and some of the characters are wonderfully written. This series is fun to read provided you don't think about things too much. ( )

finishes up the tale. The good and bad dragonsserpents, along with the patryns and sartans are all locked into the labyrinth, death’s gate is shut, so no more travel between worlds but the flow between worlds still works, so life can continue. Find out alot about the Sundering and history. Glad to finish it tho. ( )

In despair they find the strength to act.

Light shines on the Labyrinth. Some see it as a good sign, but others know the truth. A battle rages for the Final Gate, and if it closes everyone will be trapped in the Labyrinth. But Marit has other battles to fight. She must find Alfred, and together they must save Haplo. Lord Xar has taken Haplo to Abbarrach, to die. Then Lord Xar will bring him back, a soulless shell, ready to obey any command, even to lead Lord Xar to the Seventh Gate.

In many ways the story feels familiar. Scenes echo those from other books, highlighting the one thing that has changed, the characters. Flashbacks bring characters’ inner conflicts to the forefront. Each character is confronted with their own culpability. Some characters feel hurried, some plot points feel too convenient, but when the dust settles the ending feels both fitting and earned, providing fresh perspectives on familiar themes. Fans of the series will be pleased, while critics will find few reasons to change their mind.

Epigraph
And into that gate they shall enter, and in that house they shall dwell, where there shall be no Cloud nor Sun, no darkness nor dazzling, but one equal light, no noise nor silence, but one equal music, no fears nor hopes, but one equal possession, no foes nor friends, but one equal communion and identity, no ends nor beginnings, but one equal eternity. --John Donne, XXVI Sermons
