Stronger than the first in the series: smoother and more comfortable in its writing and description. With both I got the sense that Pattou's heart wasn't really in the denouement; the "climatic" battle scenes feel rushed and after the fact. But I enjoy the worlds and characters she constructs, and there are small pieces of loveliness, like the description of the sea sorcerer's littl "mote", or hut, that make the read well worth it. ( ) This is the wonderful, heroic story of a young girl looking for revenge for the death of her father. In the process, Brie grows up and realizes that killing, even for revenge, backfires and can ruin your life. She gains a new understanding of what is important in life and is worth fighting for. Kids will like it for the heroism, the epic battles, the magic and ultimately for the goodness triumphing over the evil with the help of a speical fire arrow, but just as much due to the strong moral values, courage and archery skill of the young girl, not very different from them.
