This story is about a boy and his grandpa. It shows the reader a different home culture that some friends may be able to relate to.

"Tom" is a touching tale about Tomie DePaola and his own grandfather. His grandparents owned a grocery store. His grandmother would run the front of the store and his grandfather was the butcher. Tomie would help his grandparents at their store. Then one day, Tomie's grandfather gave him a chicken's foot. He showed Tomie how to use the tendon to make it open and closed.
