Black and white photos, mostly of people, mostly well-known. Gives a sense of the life and times mostly in the U.S., from 1936-1972. ( )

I would place a bet that 3/4 of the people who own this book got it free as part of their introductory package to the Quality Paperback Book Club. It is filled with iconic images and at least one that will haunt you forever. ( )

"The Best Of Life" is just that: the best photographs from the best photography magazine ever. Logically laid out and annotated, it is immensely entertaining and educational. There is no better way to get a feel for a time and place than by photographs such as these. ( )

Epigraph
"To see life; to see the world; to eyewitness great events; to watch the faces of the poor and the gestures of the proud; to see strange things-machines, armies, multitudes, shadows in the jungle and on the moon; to see man's work-his paintings, towers and discoveries; to see things thousands of miles away; things hidden behind walls and within rooms, things dangerous to come; the women that men love and many children; to see and to take pleasure in seeing; to see and be amazed; to see and be instructed." - from Henry R. Luce's prospectus for LIFE, 1936
