Fiction. Romance. Suspense. HTML:

As an E.R. doctor, Cheyenne Allison is used to handling emergencies on a daily basis--until her own sister codes on the trauma bed. Devastated, Cheyenne retreats to an isolated farm in Hideaway, Missouri. But peace and solitude are in short supply in this picturesque Ozarks town. A dangerous vandal has the community terrorized, and Cheyenne finds an unexpected demand for her medical skills.

Mayor Austin Barlow is convinced the culprit resides with Cheyenne's charismatic neighbor across the lake, Dane Gideon, whose ranch for foster boys has given rise to previous violence. Cheyenne distrusts Austin, while Dane inspires her respect, and perhaps something more--although she can't share the faith that sustains him as the violence turns deadly. Then Cheyenne, already pursued by a past nemesis, becomes the vandal's target, and she can only hope that Hideaway will prove her sanctuary...and perhaps a place to call home.

This series and this story takes place centered around a small town in Missouri called Hideaway. This town is built by the water in the Ozark mountains of Missouri and this author makes me want to go there and vacation. I felt like I knew the folks in this story and could picture the town, the ranch and the guest house that E.R. doctor Cheyenne Allison stayed in. It is a story with a mystery, and a story of violence turning deadly. But to me it was a story of helping someone see past people and their faults and mistakes and look to the Lord, someone who will never fail you.

Dr. Cheyenne Allison finds herself working in E.R. and trying to save her sister's life when she comes through those doors. The tragic results of that send her on a leave of absence to Hideaway, MO. There she lives across the water from Dane Gideon and his ranch for foster boys who need a home and to be loved. Some of the folks in town don't trust these boys and so when bad things happen they blame the boys at the ranch. Finding out who is behind the serious vandalism and trying to keep his boys safe is no small task for Dane. Cheyenne though believes in these boys and does what she can to help them.

Much more is going on in this story, and I encourage you to sit back and be prepared to enjoy your stay in Hideaway. I was reunited with Bertie and Red, two people I grew to love from the book, "Hideaway Home", and though they were much older in this story, it was good to see how they were doing. Looking forward to more stories in this series. ( )

A mystery with just the right amount of romantic undertones -- each thread holding its own, yet neatly interwoven for a compelling read. ( )

Took this one on a business trip to keep me company after hours. Really enjoyed the book, my first from this author. The characters were realistic, and I enjoyed the story line. ( )

Plot Summary: What happens, When & Where, Central Characters, Major Conflicts
Dr. Cheyenne has been specializing in Emergency medicine and working at the ER of a Missouri hospital. When her sister comes into the ER for treatment, and then later comes back to the ER and dies after being in a car accident, Cheyenne is forced to take a leave of absence. She retreats to the small town of Hideaway, which borders one of the lakes on the Ozarks. There the down home people she meets help her recover from her grief and shock, especially when her estranged brother-in-law sues her for malpractice. Her next door neighbors, and elderly couple who raise goats, make cheese, and create handicrafts are especially endearing, but the one that really makes her heart beat fast is Dane Gideon. Dane runs a boys ranch and he and his boys are a big help to Cheyenne--despite the fact that the town mayor distrusts Dane and blames his boys for the recent spat of vandalism (as well as his wife's death).

Style Characterisics: Pacing, clarity, structure, narrative devices, etc.
Seems like a pretty typical romance, the knowledge of emergency medicine and procedures is good, and creates some good suspense that reads pretty realistically. The characters seem pretty stock, even Cheyenne's issues seem glazed over a little bit. Those that enjoy happily ever after stories, where a guy shows up to save the day and everything works out for the best will enjoy this one.

How Good is it?
See above. The authors also create a vivid and believable setting, it's one of the high points of the book. ( )
