Elaine Tracy is off on a trip she won and without the man to whom she was affianced for five years. She's broken up with him, because he was perpetually saving for their future, but never setting a wedding date. Now, she is determined to start living her own life, however, at the same time feels frightened and adrift. Elaine meets a woman who she has know before as Miss Milton, but the woman runs off frightened everytime they meet up. Elaine doesn't know what to make of it. She meets two young men - one stand-offish and hostile, and the other flirty, flip and overly familiar. Elaine has two cabinmates - Gloria and Miss Cresswell. Gloria looks and dresses like a sex godess, but has the heart and mind of a hausfrau. Miss Cresswell has disapproval stamped upon her face. Once Las Palmas is reached the real mystery starts. Miss Leeson, aka Milton, falls out of a window and dies. At first suicide is suspected, but things happen that make it clear that a murder had been committed. ELaine is drawn into trying to solve the mystery. This book has the Cadell inimitable style - engaging, humorous at times, misunderstandings with the opposite sex, and character drawings that fascinate. I highly recommend it ( )
