"The fire is within Southern Ute tribal lands, the San Juan National Forest, the Chimney Rock Archaeological Area, and privately owned property. So it has potential to impact residences and prehistoric and spiritual sites."
The backdrop of this fictional story is set amidst a wildfire in southern Colorado. It subtly tackles cultural and social class differences between the Southern Ute tribe and the white government agency officials, all under the guise of this popular mystery series with main character, BLM agent Jamaica Wild.

A good read, but sometimes a wonder if she is trying to write more about the wolf than about the story line. When is Mountain going to solve the mystery?

Too much dialog about fighting wildfires that should have been narrative. Much like the debut, descriptions of emotional scenes were flat, trite, and should have been deleted if she can't make them better. I read this book because it was named one of the Best Books of 2008 by both Publishers Weekly and Library Journal. Shame on them. ( )

An interesting but terrifying look at a wild fire approaching a Native American gathering. Good action, and I love the wolf Mountain. ( )

It was difficult to overcome the poor narration on this audiobook (a rarity for Recorded Books) and discern the merit of the writing. ( )
