I think I like the "Mutts" Sunday pages best of all. McDonnell takes full advantage of the extra room to expand upon his artistic presentation, and the "splash page" is often a small work of art itself. McDonnell's use of the Sunday roominess reminds me of Frank King's Sunday "Gasoline Alley" pages, which is fitting, as both strips have similar qualities of gentle humor and nostalgic whimsy. Even though nearly all the strips herein are also presented in the regular "Mutts" books, I am more than willing to pay for the Sunday book collections, which are in color and a larger size. ( )
