It's been literally decades since I read anything by Roald Dahl. I definitely didn't retain that his writing could be way weird (and slightly dated). I love the movie and my mom's had this copy sitting on her shelf forever. It was quick and easy to read, with some interesting differences between book and movie, (like, there's no rhino. The cloud men?? And how Aunt Sponge and spiker actually just DIE when the peach "escapes" and rolls over them?? And Ladybug MARRIES a firefighter? Lol??? I also had no idea Lane Smith's illustrations were used for the character designs in the movie. Overall I think I like the movie more than the book, but I'm glad I finally read it. ( )

This SciFi book can be a good introduction to bigger chapter books which can teach reading and comprehension skills. This books tells the story of James going through the hardship of living with his mean, abusive aunts. He soon finds life long friendship in a magical peach. I would recommend this book to early middle school grades as a beginning chapter book.

Such a fun book. I loved the darkness of it as well as the fantastical elements. ( )

And sometimes, if you were very lucky, you would find the Old-Green-Grasshopper in there as well, resting peacefully in a chair before the fire, or perhaps it would be the Ladybug who had dropped in for a cup of tea and gossip, or the Centipede to show off a new batch of particularly elegant boots that he had just acquired.
