None. In "Battle For The Abyss" the Word Bearers legion plans on destroying the Ultramarines home world with their Primarch and the bulk of their Astartes. The key to this plan is a secret ship that has been forged by the Mechanicum. Cestus, a Ultramarine captain becomes aware of this ship and puts together a make shift fleet of Ultramarines, World Eaters, Space Wolves and an Astartes for the Thousand Sons legion to stop the ship. Not the best in the series, but it is packed with action. ( )Sadly, this book is the second weakest of the 8 so-far published in the Horus Heresy series. The other books, especially the first five, did a good job of re-creating an alternative Imperium, in it’s formative years, 10,000 years before the “present day”. That all falls down in Battle for the Abyss ... http://icantstopreading.wordpress.com/2008/08/22/battle-for-the-abyss-by-ben-cou... Yet another Horus Heresy book with rather mixed critics. Some like it and most do not. I decided to give it a try and I have to say albeit not the best book in the series this one gives the further insight into the relations between various Space Marine Legions. People seem to dislike it for the same reason as it is case with Descent of Angels/Fall of Angels (btw great books and if you come across them do yourself a favor and read them) - this is just a side-story, something that leads to the main event but alas the main event (I am not very versed in W40k history but I guess main event is Battle for Calth) never takes place. Ragtag group of Marines from various Legions (Ultramarines, Space Wolves, Thousand Sons and World Eaters) witnesses the destructive power of Furious Abbys - omnipotent star-ship built specifically for the Word Bearer Legion with single goal in mind - to destroy Ultramarines. Entire story reads like mouse-and-cat chase in which mouse tries to catch the cat. Interesting story maybe too cartoon-ish enemies (but then again how to portray the religious fanatics like Word Bearers without going to some extremes). If you are into W40K HH series give it a try. Can a ragtag group of loyalist Space Marines take on the Furious Abyss, a battleship the size of Rhode Island? Read my review for more details: http://driftlessareareview.wordpress.com/2009/11/02/battle-for-the-abyss-the-hor... The Battle for the Abyss has some decent ship to ship warfare. This is not really featured in any of the other Heresy books. The story however is bland. There is very little depth to the characters. The protagonist is heroic and the villain is sinister. The book also delivers a kick to the groin of every Word Bearers fan, as it portrays them as being ridiculously easy to kill. Probably the weakest of the Heresy books to this date. no reviews | add a review
