This story is about involvement in nearly continuous war. First war between Sweden and Denmark. Later the religious wats in Germany. Then the wats between the French and the Spanish emperor. Finally the saving and looting of Rome. It careens along following the wanderings of a famliless man from Finland who madness to be involved while pursuing an education.
I found it to be a will told story. ( )

at first it was relaly interesting but then the same happened over and over again and it became redundent and the story too confusing and too many people invovled and then they split and come back later so that I totlaly lost track of everybody and sadly have to give up. However, if you are into Finnish and European history, this is probably a great detailled book for you. ( )

mika waltari a Finnish author is overlooked today by most modern readers. He writes a good tale with interesting characters. This story follows a pair of Fins though the wars fought in the reformation in Europe. ( )
