A spaceship lands in a boy's yard and space men get out and ask a boy to come travel with them. He asks his mom and gets permission and they go to another planet. On that planet, they drink root beer, meet talking rocks, use plastic fish for money, and then go back home in time for supper. ( )

This book is about a boy who goes up to space with aliens and hangs out on a planet while drinking root beer floats. This is an example of science fiction because it includes extraterrestrial beings who fly a ship into outer space--there is some scientific aspects of the book.

Not one of Pinkwater's best efforts, imo. Funny, but not clever nor thought-provoking. I kept waiting for something to be revealed, like maybe these guys are actually juvenile delinquents or something, but no, there was no message, no conflict or climax, just nonsense. Ok. ( )
