This is a story of prejudice, identity, and self acceptance. Bruchac vividly describes his poignant feelings of being torn between his love and close beautiful relationship with his grandparents, with his self-discovery of the secret of his heritage that has been kept hidden from him. Bruchac's work as a writer is inspired by his experience and his decision to embrace his Native American heritage has made him the writer he is today.
