Two mama hens quibble, bicker, and are brought together by a shared tragedy.

A cute book about two hens who don't like each other and compete on who is better and can make the best eggs. They never got along, but when something goes wrong they lose all but one egg. The hens then have to work together to care for the egg despite not liking each other. When they finally defeat the catalyst in the book, they find they are both very brave and have much to appreciate with each other. The pictures are of neutral tones to fit this farm scene, and they help tell the the story on a stand alone. But, there are a fair amount of words on each page, so this is ultimately a great story time book for a parent or teacher. The kids will enjoy the simple pictures, so they can stay focused on the words being read.

Unity in the face of a common enemy is all too relatable. This is clever and has good characterization, and good lessons in the value of cooperation.

I love this book. It represents exactly how hens really act. Hens fight over nests and eggs and basically freak out when eggs are missing. I find this an easy to read book with illustrations that are fun to look at.
