NCLA Review - Having battled depression for more than thirty years, the author shares her story with compassion and understanding for others who have experienced depression and other forms of mental illness. She encourages them to acknowledge it as a disease, disregarding myths that it is demon possession or lack of faith. She identifies symptoms, suggests alternative courses of treatment, and defines strategies to promote emotional well-being. She includes a collection of short, daily reflections of insightful poems, readings and liturgy, some of which she has written and some from participants in an online forum on depression and mental illness. She has also carefully selected a number of Bible selections which mirror the depth of emotion experienced by individuals with depression or mental illness. Rating: 4¬ —MN ( )
