Teen novel, 4th in series about reversed blacks and whites and terrorists. ( )
  Mumineurope | Aug 14, 2010 |
The fourth in the series this title focuses on Tobey, a Nought (white) boy in love with Callie Rose, a Cross (black) girl. When she's caught in the crossfire between rival mobsters Tobey is determined to have his revenge and begins a deadly game of double cross. Shocking in places, this is a compelling read and ends the saga with a real sense of resolution and hope for the future. ( )

Blackman "gets" people, especially young adults, in all their tentativeness, determination and energy. She "gets" humanity as a whole, too. Most of all, she writes a stonking good story.

Epigraph
'The mere imparting of information is not education. Above all things, the effort must result in making a man think for himself...
When you control a man's thinking you do not have to worry about his actions. You do not have to tell him not to stand here or go yonder. He will find his "proper place" and will stay in it.' - Carter G. Woodson
'... What would he do, Had he the motive and the cue for passion. That I have? - Hamlet (Act II, Scene II)
Dedication
For Neil and Lizzy, Mum and Wendy - with love. And big thanks to Annie and Sue - what would I do without you?
