There are significant narrative and thematic differences between the theatrical release of Blade Runner edited by the studios, and the extended version later released on home video, which was edited with the participation of director Ridley Scott, reflecting his original vision of the film. Due to the differences in these films, as well as the higher praise for the extended director's cut, they are often considered separate films.
