McCone finds murder of former Berkeley radicals

It was ok. I wasn't a huge fan of the author's style. 3 stars. ( )

Quite good in a style that many Ross Macdonald fans would recognize and enjoy. McCone pursues a simple assignment; find the heirs of a recent victim of an apparently random serial murder. This quest lifts the lid off a tangle of relationships going back to Vietnam and the Berkeley antiwar movement. The cast is spread all over the Bay Area from SF's more squalid and even affluent neigborhoods through the East Bay into rural West Marin. Dogged as ever, McCone is stunned when All Souls founder Hank is gunned down while she is guarding him. Lots of introspection abounds throughout the book which adds to and someines stifles the atmosphere as well as slow the story. The complex plot requires multiple solutions but it does come together fo a final, ifr not, comfortable resolution. ( )

Meh. It was OK, but I won't go out of my way to read it again. The plot was too convoluted and there was a weird transition thing on the relationships that made it really difficult to follow at times (without having read all the prior books). Again, not one of her best. ( )

View back to the 1960's in SF.
