Book 3 in The Angelini seriesMystic Renaldi might have been born to guard the border between the human and supernatural worlds, but in her mind she will never measure up to the other Renaldi Angelini. She can dance, mix drinks, play hostess, manage the music and even sing along with a band, all the things necessary for a good party â?? but not what's required of a hunter. When she slips away from the Howl for an adventure in Las Vegas, little does she know she's stepping into her Angelini destiny. Her first hunt awaits, along with three alpha males who are ready to convince her she's the equal of any Renaldi female. For Roman, Mystic is the mate who'll appease the gryphon he was before becoming vampire. For Hawk, she's the mate who'll gain him a pack of his own. For Christian, a lone wolf, she's the mate he never dreamed possible. But once she's theirs, she becomes so much more than they imagined. Nothing's left to chance when an Angelini takes a mate. And everything is claimed â?? body, heart and soul. Reader Advisory: While Mystic's Run can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel, readers may enjoy it more having read the earlier stories. Story contains a male-male sex scene between secondary characters… (more)

I love this series of books and I am sad that there is only one additional related story left. I am hoping that Ms. Strong will write additional stories soon. This is a refreshing take on the supernatural world so many of us love. I like the idea of the Angelini and what they represent. I do think that some of the families take themselves a little too seriously but I love the dynamic of each set of mates. I also love that Ms. Strong doesn’t limit her supernatural beings to just werewolves and vampires. I have always felt that if you are going to have vampires and/or werewolves then you need to have the other creatures of myth as well. Finally it was nice to see the use of magic as part of this world.

This story is a little different from the previous two. Mystic Renaldi comes from a line of Angelini that can shift to werewolves. Mystic isn’t able to shift at the beginning of the story probably because her mother has two vampire mates. The other difference is that Mystic’s Angelini magic draws three mates instead of just two. I would love to find out how family reacts to that little piece of news. Finally one of her mates is both vampire and shifter something that has happened only once in the history of this world. The villain in this story is also a little different from the earlier two. This villain is a sorcerer and he isn’t just making vampires. He is also making rogue werewolves that are hunting and killing fledgling vampires. It is all very exciting.

Mystic has been sent to the Howl by her grandparents in the hopes that she will find werewolves as mates. Her grandparents are not happy that Mystic’s mother has two vampire mates. They view Mystic as a disappointment because she can shift and she hasn’t become a hunter yet. Mystic doesn’t want a mate or mates as Angelini always have two mates. She doesn’t want to have her freedom curtailed by an overbearing wolf. So she and her two friends Gabe and Gabby, young werewolves, run away from the compound that they are staying at and go to Vegas for a little fun. They discover a pack of rogue werewolves hunting a fledgling vampire. The vampire dies before the pack can kill him because of the sun rising. This leads the three to the adventure they never dreamed of espcecially Mystic since she won’t find two mates but three.

I like Mystic for the most part. She thinks that she is just a party girl with no real skills but she has a wisdom and maturity that she hides very well. She is not as confident as Skye was but it doesn’t take her long to find more confidence with each interaction with her mates. It is sad that she seems to attracted trouble like a magnet. I am surprised that her mates didn’t lock her away and throw away the key. The best thing is by the end of the story all three mates agree to teach her how to fight and use weapons.

Hawk Konstantin is an alpha looking for his own pack and Mystic would help seal that dream for him. Her Renaldi relatives and connections would make a powerful alliance. I loved that Hawk tried to be patient and allow Mystic time to come to terms with the fact that they are mates. I know that he gets very frustrated that she runs but he is never mean to her even when he probably wants to spank her until she can’t set for a week. A mark of a great leader is how he treats those under him. Hawk is patient and caring with the younger wolves once he makes his displeasure known for the help in getting Mystic away from the compound. Hawk is also the more accepting of the three mates. He had already come to terms with having to share Mystic.

Christian Augustino is a lone wolf and he is lonely. His mother was a human taken by a werewolf. Christian never knew who his father was or what pack he might have been associated with. All his life he has lived in the human world working as a policeman just as his mother did. While he loves his job he hates that pack politics keep him from associating with his own kind. When he meets Mystic he is thrilled that he has finally found someone of his own, his mate. He is the most gentle with Mystic and he is the one that she forms the closest bond to. Christian is also an alpha male. I would love to know how that dynamic works in a pack. I am guessing that he would be Hawks second in command. It is wonderful to see the transformation of Christian as he and Hawk and Roman come to terms with being Mystic’s mate.

Roman is very ancient and a unique being in this paranormal reality. He was made human from a Gryphon. The mage that made him did so in order to have protection against vampires. He becomes a vampire from killing so many of them. It takes Syndelle's magic to release the Gryphon into its two animal forms and give Roman the ability to walk in the daylight. I would have loved to see him as a Golden eagle and a lion. Roman is the most dominant of the three and he is the most willing to tie Mystic up and spank her.

We also get to read more about Skye, Rico, Gian, Brann, Rafe and Syndelle which is a great bonus. This is Jory Strong at her best. There is all the steamy hot sex could want in all the right combinations. There are fight scenes, car chases, magic battles and the vanquishing of a vile sorcerer that is creating rogue werewolves and vampire. I think the story has it all and for those that like paranormal romance you are going to love this. ( )
