Took out from library many years ago and read cover to cover. A very important author to just leave him on the shelf ever since like that. Must revisit him in my current rereading project. Up to age 42, read a pile of books for the first time. But getting that far, I forgot most of what I read in my teens and 20s. Time to go back and refresh my memory. I guess it is unavoidable that our brain can only remember so much that could be actually recalled to a state of just-as-if-it-was-only-a-moment-ago. But, like they say, it is all in there somewhere, having its effect, such as is proven when you dream about a book or a character that you had forgotten, or thought that you had forgotten. I do remember the part about the botched operation on a helpless victim who had a deformed foot. Looked for the cover picture on the publisher website, but they do not even have it.
