Book Review of Lucid by Katherine Angela Yeboah

Lucid by Katherine Angela Yeboah is the tale of Sloane, a young woman who has begun to have terrifying dreams of a girl held captive and tortured. She suspects her neighbor. As she shares her fears with her friends, one of them decides to explore the neighbor's apartment while Sloane distracts him. In the end, Sloane herself is taken captive. All along, the neighbor is the suspect, but the ending has a surprise.

I enjoyed reading this book and kept turning the pages to find out if Sloane's dreams were real or if she was merely experiencing "lucid" dreaming. The generous use of sentence fragments at times was distracting from the story, but many skilled authors make use of this grammatical method.

It was a good scary read. Warning: it does not have a happy ending. ( )

“Who wants another beer?”
Sloane lifted a reluctant head from the flattened sofa cushion. Surveyed the room, bleary-eyed, through a curtain of tousled curls.

You never know. Maybe when we’re dreaming…we’re more lucid than when we are awake.

Book description
Ever had a dream so disturbing…you couldn’t get it out of your head?
Ever had a nightmare so vivid, so intense you couldn’t help feeling there was more to it than ‘just a dream’?
What if the dream involved your own neighbor....kidnapping and torturing a helpless girl?
What if that neighbor’s behavior was becoming more and more bizarre, every time you crossed his path?
What would you do?
What lengths would you go to in order to uncover the truth?
And what horrors might await you, if you pried into secrets that were best left undisturbed?
