Another American historical. Like I said, she has a real way with characters. ( )

bought as an ebook, but a reread. This turn of the century (19th to 20th) story of a man who is found as feral, is still a good exploration of the issues around such incidents. although the story of his origins is implausibly high end contributing to the happy ending. Still an excellent book. The scientists, and in particular her father have some nice nuances in both their faults and their ability to see their own faults if hit over the head with them with sufficient moral force. Gaffney has moved on to write things that are more women's fiction and less romance than this earlier work. She's good whatever she's writing.

They called him "the lost man." Raised in the woods, without speech, without civilization, he was beautifully, wonderfully wild. But only one woman looked beyond the wildness to see the man.

"With a lyrical voice and keen wit, Patricia Gaffney weaves compelling stories that echo in the human heart." (Nora Roberts)
