The powerful narrative of this fictionalized biography of Phyllis Wheatley provides an interesting look at the struggle for freedom in Boston in the years leading up to the American Revolution. Poems and letters by Wheatley are incorporated into the story, which includes her conversion to Christianity and her release to freedom. This inspirational story is appropriate for ages 8-12.
