Even considering that nothing can quite live up to the glory that is Sex and the City: The Movie, it was a wonderful trip down memory lane reading the companion book. The movie was actually my first entry into Carrie Bradshaw's New York, so it will always be particularly nostalgic revisiting the drama, the characters, and most of all the fashion. After seeing the film just once (with my off, obviously) I was instantly hooked - and for good reason. the tv series may have had a lot more depth of story and character development but who can resist that fabulously outrageous Vivienne Westwood wedding dress (which was perfectly dethroned by a suit "by no one" as the story was rescued and things went back to how they should be).

What the book gives us is a more focused look at how the film was created, providing commentary by writer Michael Patrick King, lead actress Sarah Jessica Parker, and fabulous design Patricia Field that showcases almost every outfit from the entirety of the film. I bet they missed a few (plus all of the supporting cast), but nothing glaring met the eye and even humble choices of sleepwear were covered. I would have loved to see ever more content, with commentary about the designers, sourcing information, and how elements of costume defined the film, but hopefully someone will eventually publish a huge retrospective for the entire franchise! A great movie tie in. Light on words, but beautiful detailed pictures of the scenes and fashion. A gorgeous book. ( )
