Critique: This a great informational text for beginning readers . The text is clear and the pictures off great text clues for help a struggling reader with the new vocabulary inside.
Craft elements: Before beginning this story ask students what they may know about oceans. Place answers on an anchor chart. While reading new information repeat new vocabulary back to students such as "what is a tide" pg 11.
While reading ask students "did you know that ocean water is constantly moving?" pg 10. After reading, discuss with students the new information they learned while reading this book. Add the new information to the anchor chart. After discussion, have students write an information writing piece on oceans. Allow them to look back on the anchor chart for help.
