A light romp in the world of genies and magic. There can be such a thing as too many wishes — but you should always be careful what you wish for. Fun read. ( )

This is really a short comic fantasy novel and its sequel. At the halfway point, most plot threads are resolved, there's a jump in time, a major shift in character focus, etc. The comedy is very broad, and the plot positively Wodehousian at times. The first story gets 3 stars with its convoluted tale of starcrossed lovers, but the second gets just 1 star. It has too many pauses for explanations and backstories, too much reliance on comic stereotypes rather than characters, and a plot resolution that was last viable, if at all, in the 1950's. Read the first story. Feel free to move on to better Friesner books at the midpoint. ( )
