Essayist, critic, and linguist John Weightman late in life devoted himself to reading the Bible completely, in English and French, and then wrote this gentle yet scathing critique of the contradictions, paradoxes, misinterpretations, and inconsistencies he found in the various versions and their commentaries. Weightman writes in an engaging style, with subtle humor on occasion, but never condescension or personal ridicule. This book would be found heretical by most any die-hard believer of show more either Old or New Testament dogma, but I would dearly love to hear an intelligent and non-dogmatic, non-emotional rebuttal to the points Weightman makes, because what is truth, if it can't hold up to questioning? show less
