This book is a pragmatic guide for developing, aligning, and assessing general education programs in meaningful, manageable and sustainable ways. It presents a variety of approaches to help readers understand what other campuses are doing to develop a repertoire of methods so they can make informed decisions about their own programs. It critically reviews examples of direct and indirect assessments.
This was one of the books I had to read to ramp up on Psycometrics (educational exam/test analysis and statistics). I read about 6/7 chapters and read at least 2 of them 3 times. This is actually well written and easy to follow (compared to other math books).
General Education has many names - it may be called Gen Ed, Core, Liberal Arts Education, etc., but the goal behind the name is to ensure all students have a breadth of knowledge across disciplnes as well as the depth of knowledge in the elected major. Allen describes her goal as helping the reader explore multiple methods of assessing programs in meaningful, manageable, and sustainable ways.
