Appalachian conquest : C & O, N & W, Virginian and Clinchfield cross the mountains by Eugene L. Huddleston
This is the first book I have read, or at least remembering reading, that gives one a good picture of all the Pocahontas lines and how they fit together to initially serve the coal industry and other types of freight traffic going forward. The text is a good read and the photos are well done and he wasn't afraid to get some good ones from other authors/photographers. The geography can be a bit confusing unless you know the area. I was fine with Western VA and parts of West Virginia but once show more I left that area I was lost. There is a good elevation map on the inside of the back cover. There is no index. show less
