What fun! If you want quiet, respectful Christmas music, then this is not the CD you are looking for. There were some songs that were new to me as well as new twists to old favorites -- the introduction to We Three Kings comes to mind with its hints of the Mission Impossible theme.
The Christmas Can-Can made me laugh. The twists in Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch, and Santa Claus Is Back in Town made me really listen to the lyrics and they became fresh again. show more Ending with The 12 Days of Christmas is the perfect conclusion to the CD.
If you enjoy Christmas music and have a good sense of musical humor, then you'll probably enjoy this CD. Id you do, then be sure to check out the other Christmas CDs by this group; I haven't found one yet that I didn't love. show less

This is an excellent retrospective, with both live and studio recordings. The 16 songs are interspersed with a dozen short "interludes" averaging about half a minute each. The interludes provide a behind the scenes look at the group and their memories.
All of the song choices are excellent and provide a good look at what Straight No Chaser has done through the years (minus their Christmas music). I honestly cannot pick a few favorites to focus on.
Who would like it? Fans of the group would show more love the interludes. Folks new to the group will almost certainly like the songs. I strongly recommend this CD. show less

I love Christmas music and male choral music, so it is nearly a given that I love this CD. Straight No Chaser has lovely harmonies in the group. With its jazzy feel, this collection makes a nice change to my usual Christmas fare.
I love the appropriate opening of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town. Other favorites include This Christmas, Little Saint Nick (this version is fun!), Sweet Little Jesus Boy (a change of pace and ell done), and The Carol of the Bells. Auld Lang Syne is the perfect way to show more wind up the holidays.
Their version of The 12 Days Of Christmas is certainly different, not at all traditional, and I laughed out loud. I think choosing a live performance was wise as the laughter is infectious.
Indiana Christmas brought tears to my eyes. I think no matter where you call home this one will resonate. If you are sentimental at all, have a tissue ready.
If you like Christmas music and don't mind if the performers play with it, I think you'll like this recording. If you like vocal jazz, too, I think you'll love it. If you like Straight No Chaser and Christmas music, what are you waiting for? Add it to your collection! show less

One thing is always true for Straight No Chaser and that is the recording they release will have some fun songs on it. Another thing is that their vocal harmonies will be spot on. This CD is no exception.
I really enjoyed the following songs: Mary, Did You Know?, Do You Hear What I Hear?, Run Run Rudolph and Lully Lullay. To Christmas! made me laugh and was the perfect end to the CD.
The CD insert is merely production information, so I think if you only want to listen to the music, you'll be show more fine with a digital download.
If you don't take your Christmas music too seriously, I think you'll like this recording. If you like male choral music, you might give this group a go. If you like Christmas music and male harmony, then what are you waiting for? Get this! show less
