In Pursuit of a Christmas Bride: A Regency Christmas Novella (The Society of Scandalous Brides) by Rebecca Paula
In this Regency romance, love is only a stolen kiss away. Henry Davies has no time for socializing. He is consumed by his work in law. He is coerced into attending a masquerade party, and by mere chance, literally runs into an Irish lass, Tilly, in the garden. Yes, it is love at first sight. It will be several months until they happen to be at the same Christmas party. He has now inherited the title of Earl, and Tilly is but an actress hiding a shameful secret. Yet love will find a way. This show more romance is a quick read. The storyline is a bit farfetched, but nevertheless interesting, as it plays out. The characters are likable. Tilly is a hardworking actress, trying to take care of her siblings. Henry is a dashing lawyer, unaware of his own good looks. A format longer than a novella would have allowed more elements that might have enhanced the story. Sometimes, it seemed like details were missing.

In Pursuit of a Christmas Bride: A Regency Christmas Novella (The Society of Scandalous Brides) by Rebecca Paula
The strength and the pleasure in reading this for me lies in the author`s finesse with dialogue, not to minimize any other aspects of Rebecca Paula`s impressive writing skills . I soon forgot I was reading and had to shake myself back to reality. Although short, it was a very enjoyable experience and well worth picking up as your next book.
In Want of a Wife has:
… a charming, misguided sailor
… an intelligent, modern heroine in danger of being left on the shelf
… a bevy of warm, supportive female friends and family and one glowering brother
… enticing descriptions of what goes on behind closed doors
It is a fun romp that follows the typical trajectory of meet, love, conflict, reconciliation, happily ever after. I enjoyed the story, and I found the characters interesting and engaging. I am glad it is the first in a series show more because I would like to get to the know the supporting characters better.
I am grateful to the author, publisher and BookSirens for providing me with an advanced reader copy. The above is my honest personal opinion of the book. show less

This book slowly grew on me as I was reading. It took me a while to get used to the writing and to let go of my preconceived notions about what I thought the plot was going to be.
What I liked was that this book wasn't a happy-go-lucky romance. It deals with some serious issues and is realistic when it comes to the romance. But at the same time, it's hard to read because both characters show more aren't in a happy place in their lives, which gives the book a depressing tone.
The last quarter of the book was the strongest part for me and I wish it was introduced earlier in the story. It was more of what I thought the book was going to be and I just loved the character growth that happened during those plot events.
I'm looking forward to seeing what is in story for the next two leads in the second book because I still have a lot of unanswered questions with those two.
