I have never laughed so hard in my life and poor Bree just could not catch a break! Time after time fro one job after another she got fired! After she was fired from the bakery because she was late, she lucked out and was hired to be an assistant as a ghost hunter, she vowed to prove to the town that they were scammers and they took client's money as EVERYONE knew that there were no such thing as ghosts! Armed with a carpet bag filled with a box of crystals, a woijo board, military boots, show more and a carrot cake, she went to the address she had been given! Oh my, I can't wait to read the next!! show less
This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.I stumbled upon Ghost Of A Gamble when I was noseying through Amazon for Captive Wilderness. Having loved that so much, I decided to take a chance on a paranormal love affair.
I absolutely loved this novel! Bree is amazing, she's witty, abit down on her luck but I felt like she had so much character and depth. Her sense of humor and sarcasm was perfectly balanced and really brought a few chuckles from the page.
Zack, now Zack was just a candy wrapped sweet hotness with a lot of mystery. His show more energy mixed with Bree just oozed from the page.
Though the sexual tension was there, I don't think their pure steam showed on paper... That was OK because the proper story was just as good.
A haunted house and a paranormal investigation! Ghosts don't exist or do they?
I loved the investigation, the carpet bag, flour all made me laugh. The other characters that helped fill the story and I loved how it wasn't a paranormal ghost haunts rammed down your throat story. And Selma! I wish we had more of her - bless her!
This novel has it all! I really enjoyed it show less

Ghost of an Enchantment by J.E. McDonald.
Ghost of an Enchantment is a paranormal romance and part of the Wickwood Chronicles series, following Ghost of a Gamble, which I have not read. That said, reading #2 before #1 wasn’t a problem since this book features a different main character and the previous protagonists only appear in minor roles. Stella is a web site designer and a witch who consults with a paranormal investigation company on the side. She’s also coping with her show more grandmother’s institutionalization for dementia. Lucas is a cop. The sexual tension between them is unbelievably instant. There’s a weird artifact that may open a way between dimensions, floating furniture, and other odd happenings, and Stella has to figure out what’s causing it and how it all fits together. On the whole, I enjoyed this. The insta-love was annoying, but the sex scenes weren’t the worst I’ve read. I’m unlikely to read this again, but would consider others in the series, should they come my way. Reviewed from a free e-book received through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers Program. show less

This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers.CAPTIVE WILDERNESS by J. E. McDonald is another 5-star success. I’ve loved all of her books and was happy to find that this one takes off in a new direction – shifters. I appreciated that the H and h found out just as much about themselves that they hadn’t known as they did about each other. Many previous shifter type books have the person in complete control but this doesn’t. There is a fatalistic view by one of the characters that, with the patience and support of the other, begins show more to be turned around. I have to say that I have two favorite quotes: “He had so many muscles it was like his muscles had muscles.”, and “Every new emotion made moisture pool in the corner of my eyes. His feelings were so beautiful, his intent clear. It was like some sort of song we were singing to each other, our own melody.” There was some time spent in exploring their newly developing relationship after Brooke initially escapes her captors due to her sister Sabrina’s help. Unfortunately, Sabrina wasn’t also able to escape and that becomes another quest in this adventure. There’s a lot going on yet to be explored and some other significant characters yet to be more fully developed. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series. show less
