- Gabrielle Ringertz was born in Stockholm, Sweden, to Theodor John, a diplomat, and his wife Marianne Sugnet. In 1890, she married Nils Conrad Ringertz, an army officer. She contributed poems, articles, and short stories to periodicals and worked as a translator, sometimes using the pseudonym Monica Bang. In 1917, she shared second prize in a writing competition sponsored by Hasselbladfilm. The manuscript was adapted into the 1918 silent film Storstadsfaror (Perils of the Big City).
