The second book in the series concludes most of the tale, I feel he's a better writer here, and my disappointment with this many years ago was probably down to the lack of elves/dwarfs/magic from his earlier books, but it's actually a great adventure, resolution and redemption tale.
Told in flashback as a boy called Josh lies dying on the pavement from a stab wound. In 25 minutes, as his blood drains away, he goes over how he got into the mess he is in, why his older brother Gary went missing, his relationship with a shy girl from the neighbourhood called Skye and his friendship with the lonely Danny who must care for his disabled mother. This book looks at the knife culture that exists in the lower social classes in Britain and carries a lot of suspense. There are a show more lot of passages that could be read as "teasers" for class p.1,2 and 3 are excellent. show less
This is a cute little book, written for kids ages 3-6. I enjoyed the illustrations and the fact Rascal reminded me of one of my own dogs. A fun book for kids, particularly any with pets!
One of a good series of tourist souvenir books for children, introducing Scottish places, Scots words and phrases, and other cultural and historical facts. Light-hearted reading for preschool to grade 2. In this one the friends learn about boating on canals, locks, and the remarkable water wheel lock at Falkirk.
