Short biography
P. M. Mitchell received the Ph.D. degree from the University of Illinois in 1942. He has been a professor in the Department of Germanic Languages at the University of Illinois since 1958. He has taught previously at Cornell University, Harvard University, and the University of Kansas. He has been a guest professor at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Aarhus. He was appointed curator of Fiske Icelandic Collection, Cornell Uinversity Library in 1986, relinquishing that position in 1993.
