A fairly solid overview of the band on an almost day-by-day basis, and also a collection of interesting—if sometimes slightly repetitious—interviews with key figures or peers of the band.
While the day-to-day stuff was at times highly interesting, I found the author would sometimes note dates back to back with the same information (played at this location, played at same location, played at same location again), while totally omitting dates where the band recorded a full album. show more Strange.
And, while I also enjoyed most of the interviews, I found the interviewer had a particularly irritating habit of asking two questions over and over. One was, what is the defining Led Zeppelin song? Whole Lotta Love, Stairway to Heaven, or Kashmir? Seriously? Who cares?
The other was, do you think Robert Plant will ever get over his need to define himself as a solo artist and agree to go back out on a Led Zep reunion tour? Again, who cares? The only person that can answer that would be Plant himself.
What I did learn from this book is precisely how much Page and Plant stole from those who came before them, and usually, unless coerced by legal means, never gave credit where credit was due.
Really lowered my estimation of the band, because that's a supremely dick move. show less

Some really great interviews here from the old Scott Muni show.
The interview with Lennon to promote his album 'Rock & Roll' back in the 70's is worth the price of the book alone.

A chronological journey from their start as the New Yard Birds to the untimely death of John Bonham. Interviews complete this book.
