I ordered this book from the publisher because I'd read Angie O'Gorman Lenten Reflections, written for Pax Christi. They were short, sharp and insightful, written with a rare clarity and heart. That said, novels written around ideas are hard to pull off. This one sags in the middle, but the ending is worth the read. There are wonderful quotes in this novel set in the future: "It had all been so simple. Once believers realized the Market's invisible hand was God's own, the unity of church and show more business was inevitable." (p.18) The one that broke my heart, as a Catholic?

"Are you serious? Life is never a matter of money." Haze was horrified.
"Life is always a matter of money," said Walters. "If that weren't true, our hospital systems would have stayed nonprofit. They would have formed an alternative health care system. The Catholic Church was large enough to do that. It didn't." (p.153)
