This book was a poem about Autumn. It was very short but it had lots of little details about the changes in Autumn and gave a perspective of what Autumn looks like to someone.
This book would be a great book to use in a poetry unit. It is short yet it has details and pictures so it is easier for kids to understand. It shows them that their poem doesn't have to be long or use big words.

Reading the long introduction is important. So much history and context is relevant. Even more relevant is that Posey was very well-read in the European tradition as well as a follower of his contemporary Native writers. His 'dialect' work was done with care, respect, and affection.
I did have to look up what a "busk ground" is. If the author explained it, I missed it. Here's what I found: "A busk is a ritual featuring ceremonial cleansing, fasting, and purification, a time when grievances show more are resolved, special meals are served, and then ceremonial embers are distributed to rekindle hearths throughout scattered villages." This is copyright 2006 American Forests and preserved at https://www.thefreelibrary.com/Centennial celebrates patriarch trees.-a0146160980.
Also sofky: A soup or stew made of hominy, cornmeal and bits of meat.

I am sure looking forward to finishing the intro. and getting to the photos and actual 'letters.'

Ok, now I'm lost. Historians will get a lot out of this I'm sure, but even though I did read the long intro. I just don't have the context to appreciate the satire (and other forms of humor?) and I'm going to have to move along. I'm glad to have been exposed to this; maybe another source someday will help me understand more.
