This story has a modern-day spin on the classic story of Cinderella. As we are lead on a journey, Marineau uses urban terminology and current household items to create the story. Instead of a pumpkin and a mouse, the fairy uses a tomato, vanilla yogurt, and a dog to recreate the traditional tale. The pages are filled with abstract illustrations, which is on par with the modern chic city fairytale. This is such a refreshing twist on the storybook classic that makes the book engaging for all!
In this modern version of Cinderella, author Marineau covers the basis to every typical Cinderella story. The girls father weds a mean woman with two mean and lazy stepsisters, Cinderella has a godmother, she looses at shoe at the ball, etc. The only difference in this fairy tale is not only the illustrations, but the different tiny details that make up the traditional Cinderella story. For example, the godmother turned dogs, tomatoes, and raisins into Cinderella's carriage and dress. In the show more original story, it was mices and a pumpkin.
Also, the ending is different as well. In the traditional Cinderella story, the stepsisters and stepmother receive horrible treatment for the way they treated Cinderella. In this story, the stepsisters and stepmother wasn't mentioned after Cinderella and the Prince got together.
