Nemesis the Warlock is a case study in how essential the artist (as opposed to the writer) is to the success of a graphic novel. Kevin O'Neill's spectacular renditions of the mysterious demon Nemesis are the heart of this work, and Pat Mills' scripts are simply the rough scaffold on which O'Neill can hang his art. That contrast becomes crystal clear when O'Neill is replaced by other artists in some of these episodes, at which point Nemesis the Warlock only just manages to rise to the level show more of the merely ordinary. But when Kevin O'Neill is working the pencils and the ink, this is great stuff - a visual feast that easily transcends any weaknesses in the writing. show less
