- Annie Russell Marble was born in Worcester, Massachusetts. After graduating from Worcester High School, she attended Smith College, where she received her BA and MA degrees. In 1895, she married Charles Francis Marble, a businessman with whom she had two children.
Her literary career began with the publication of a few magazine articles. In 1897, she edited an edition of Thomas Carlyle’s On Heroes, Hero-Worship and the Heroic in History, and provided notes and an introduction.
She became a prolific author of essays and books on early American history and literature, and published a number of calendars and almanacs with a literary theme.
