This is a novel set in an imaginary time and place, centered on a war transpiring in a vaguely northern African setting. It's deep and compelling, even if the reader risks being overwhelmed by its complexity. The author has fully realized his alternative world but does not lard the text with blatant passages of description and explication. In reading it, one must allow oneself to get caught up in the flow of the narrative without worrying too much about understanding everything. It's like show more sailing towards a new land where the misty shore coheres and gains clarity as the ship approaches. show less
