Norbertas Vėlius (1938–1996)

Basically what the title implies: a collection of oral folk tales/myths from Lithuania which were written down over the course of the twentieth century. Many were very brief (one reads in its entirety "Once a sorcerer harnessed two herrings and said, "Look how I'm going to carry the stove out of the house." The people looked and saw him carry the stove.") and the same motifs/events/tropes repeat between them. They generally weren't satisfying to me as stories, and I'd recommend this only to show more people with a real interest in folk tales. show less
