Goofy, '80s supernatural horror that is extremely silly and crushingly boring for the most part, but is given the occasional surrealist jolt thanks to the cool, stretchy latex effects work of the KNB EFX Group. The story (by Joe Augustyn and Walter Josten) sees ancient demon Lilith (Isa Andersen) resurrected in modern times and setting about claiming men's souls, apparently by taking over Siren, a fashion magazine owned by Rita (Karen Black) and sexing-up then killing the male staff. show more Photographer Craig (Linden Ashby), who's having a fling with Rita's sister Kirstie (Debra Feuer), finds himself the target for Lilith's "affections" and is torn between sexual lust for Lilith and his love for Kirstie. The plot of "Night Angel" is pretty farcical and nonsensical, with little assistance provided by director Dominique Otherin Girard's muddled and pedestrian approach. The actors do little to elevate events, most of them standing out for all the wrong reasons, with a couple downright irritating performances thrown into the mix. What saves the film from being a total waste of time is the excellent FX work, some of which is highly inventive and at times incredibly startling. One extended dream sequence around the middle of the film is a particular standout - it provides numerous odd images and one totally surreal sequence where a large-busted woman lifts her pendulous breasts to reveal two monstrous demon faces. This was a brilliantly odd image that has permanently seared itself in my brain. show less
