Pindar's Odes are celebrations of athletic prowess. Each year, a set of games of held in one of four cities -- Olympia, Nemea, Delphi, or Isthmia. These Panhellenic Games rotated around in sequence to find that year's best athletes. This collection of Pindar's Odes focuses on the various victors from each of the games. A bit of a warning, the poetry here is dated and very stilted, but pleasant enough once you get the hang of the translator's cadence and style. This isn't the thing I would show more recommend to another person, but I'm now at least conversant on another great Greek poet. show less
