I personally love this book because of the illustrations and educational purpose. I would use this book with a student who may have dyslexia because it helps these students learn to read when words are purposely incorrect and switched around. At the end of this book, there are some activities for children to work on.
Part of the rhyming word families series, this is the -am word family book portraying the main characters of the story on the cover; a clam, a ram, jam, a ham and a boy named Tam. The ram’s name is Sam and the clam’s name is Pam. In two sentences there is another -am family word included to say more about the characters. The story is simple and there is even some humor; Pam and Sam do not like ham, there is more for Tam. Colorful illustrations wherever possible. The dam, ram, and clam show more are grey. Tam is a diverse character which makes this a true 21st century book for beginning readers.
The larger typeface and short sentences make this a good read for a beginning reader. All words in the -am family are in a bolder typeface. The end spread is a review list of all the -am words and a to find the rhyming words among the 6 illustrations.
